With $69 a month lease, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV becomes America's cheapest electric car

O'Brien Mitsubishi, a dealership in Mitsubishi's U.S. base of Normal, Ill., appears all out to change that. As caught by Autoblog Green, O'Brien has advertised a $69 a month, two-year lease of an i-MiEV before about $2,100 in fees, or a $169-a-month deal with the fees rolled in. As with all electric car leases, the dealership keeps the $7,500 federal tax credit that goes to the vehicle's buyer.

That'll have a few people doing the math on how much money they could be saving on gas.

At $69 a month, who cares about gas... that's as close to a free new car as you can get!

We can get the C-Zero (Citroen version of the i-Mev) for £149 (+VAT @ 20%) per month on a 3 year / 30,000 mile contract.

This is the leccy car dilema though - I could use one of these on an average day (~45 miles round trip commute) but then I would still need to keep George for the other times when I have to go further (Mrs A needs the Prius - her job involves driving places).

Which is probably why the only i-Mev, Peugeot iOn or Citroen C-ZERO on the roads are run by a local college from one site to the other.

Mitsubishi recalling 14,700 i-MiEV, iON, C-Zero electric vehicles

The recall stems from a faulty electric brake pump that's supposed to send air to the brake booster, and the repair is said to take about 30 minutes. About 27,000 Mitsubishi i-MiEVs and i models have been sold since the model debuted overseas in mid-2009, meaning that about 45 percent of those vehicles are subject to the recall.
