You could never drive it at its top speed.... the tiller bar steering is scary and feels out of control at slow speeds. But it does get amazing mileage at around 60mpg from the single cylinder popper.

The famous Oldsmobile "Curved Dash", which was arguably the real first model to be produced in an assembly line. Sometimes I get quite tempted to build a replica and fit it with a small motorcycle engine, but it would be a PITA to make it street-legal...

Did you think that is not a clone? Sitting in a backyard with the tractors?

Examine the wheels for instance.

Its as stock as I was able to restore it, since most of the parts have not been made in a hundred years. So I had to use what I could get that were as close to the original as possible. Those are mountain bike tires on hand cart wheels. The engine has a couple upgrades as well, a pull starter, an idler shaft disconnect, and the ignition for easier starting. This model was a push started engine. As you can imagine, it was a fun case of push starting it, then chasing it once it started! Now you pull the disconnect, then pull start it, then jump in and push the lever to go. Small common sense upgrades....

I'll add the Kia Soul to the list. We had one last year, and while they look neat, it wasn't that great on mpg. Kinda sucked actually. Even though it's boxy-ish, you would think with the small engine and light weight it would do okay. Nope.

It's got a collapsible steering column (well, drag link). For Safety!
I may be the odd man out here, but that is seriously cool. Steampunk stuff is neat. I'd ride it.

Maybe with a transmission setup similar to the Isetta, it could be made driveable. But that steering setup with chains would need to get a replacement for the sake of reliability.
