People eat Ostrich.

But the meat is damn expensive... the skin goes a long way, though.

-

Same with croc. Croc farming is one of the biggest damn wastes of resources... ever... the amount of meat you have to feed one to get it to a good size is insane.

I had a croc-burger once... just to see what it tasted like. Comparing it to chicken really short-sells the poultry industry. It wasn't all that good.

-

Missed the initial discussion on wood... but I'd like to note... if you're against wood in cars, the wood veneer in most high-end cars is harvested from sustainable forests, and the veneer itself is sliced paper thin, and merely lacquered onto the plastic panels of the interior.

In other words... an entire wooden interior on a Rolls Royce is probably less wood than it takes to make a good sized magazine. And it's less toxic than paint. And it'll last the life of the car.

As opposed to the nearly fifty pounds of paint on the outside of the Roller.

-

Really ecological cars shouldn't have anything but four sets of pedals and bar stools for seats.

Close enough.

Sorry, I can't get my head around the idea of an ecological car. Either you want ecology, or you want the car.

Choose.

I have been eating more chicken and fish than beef recently, but won't give up at all. Anyway, other animals can be a possible source of leather, including pork which seems to be more easily available than cattle in China and Germany, for example. Plus it's cheaper to raise pork than cattle.

Err... Could I point out that this has nothing to do with ecology? It's a religious/moral thing that some people subscribe to. Ecology is chock-full of critters eating other critters, regardless of whether they are 'innocent' or not. In fact, if you want a healthy ecosystem, you pretty well need a bunch of predators eating enough of the herbivores to prevent them from having a population explosion, eating all the plants, and then starving.

Valid for certain values of 'ecology'? Or 'car'?

The Ajiro Bamboo Bike is Grown From the Ground Up | Inhabitat - Sustainable Design Innovation, Eco Architecture, Green Building

Quote:
This bamboo Ajiro concept bicycle rethinks both our means of transportation and the ways we manufacture our vehicles. Designed by Monash University student Alexander Vittouris, the Ajiro utilizes a production process that removes emissions instead of releasing them into the Earth’s atmosphere. That’s because the bamboo structure of this vehicle is grown straight out of the ground into a preformed mold. Vittouris envisions fields of bamboo gardens growing these human powered bicycles, which need only small modifications once mature to hit the streets.
