Recycle that ride

I started this thread as a suggestion so here it is. It is for all of us that want to restore a older car that got great gas milage and want to make them better.. I have a 59 Morris Minor 1000 the motor is being rebuilt right now. Its a slow project as money is hard to come by and I am in the 9.8% right now.

Motor aftermarket 10:1 compression, two ring camshaft, oversize valves, converting to fuel injection and if that works out I will use the computer to control the ignition also.

Sounds like a cool project. I like the idea of adapting a new more efficient motor into older rides. that Morris wpuld be killer with a GM ecotec under the hood...


What kind of Fuel injection do you have planned?

I have a megasquirt system that will go on the throttle body that came off of a suzuki tl1300 V twin motor. I morfed the two throttle bodies into one. I do not remember the size but it must be about 44mm atleast, the motor made 130 hp so one should work fine on the 848cc motor. I will add a coil pack ignition once the fuel system kinks are work out.

...you're probably already aware, but EDELBROCK sells an after-market "add-on" electronic injection system, so they might be able to provide you information on how their system works which might help you "fine-tune" your approach.

I have always been a big fan of the edelbrock Pro-flo systems as well as the Holley pro-jection. But I have only seen them on V8 American cars, awesome performance and a serious increase in fuel economy.

I have not seen much improvement with the pro jection system but it did make the engine much smoother with better drivablilty. My old roomate and I had a fuel milage war some years back I had a 440 truck and he a 350 chevy truck. I used a lean carb and he put the holly the fuel milage was neck and neck. We were getting 17.2mpg with both. If I could have put a 700R4 behind the 440 I think he would have lost.. 2.73 gears with a O2 that was way lean worked great on the hwy..

I like the way the megasquirt is set up and I am sure it will do all I am asking of it.

The suzuki uses Mikuni parts..

The megasquirt has 10x the capabilites of edelbrock or anything in the entry level efi market. Most US aftermarket efi is rebranded Magnetti Marelli or some other brand. Sounds like fun !

That sounds like an awesome idea. Good luck with the megasquirt. Several friends have had good luck on Mazdas. I have been told the computer in modern GM cars can run anything from 1-12 cylinders once they are opened up. It's all beyond me though. Keep us posted.
