I noticed a few days ago that members' profile pages no longer have visitor messages. Is this a bug, or were they removed for a reason?

I made the decision to disable the feature because the vB software has no anti-spam measures to prevent abuse. They were being abused by spammers.
The more popular EcoModder becomes, the more spammers are targeting us to hi-jack our hard-earned ranking at the search engines for their gain. Parasites.
The messages haven't been lost, so if the forum software maker presents a fix, they can be turned on again.

Yes, the PM system can be hijacked -- I'm a moderator at Silent PC Review, and we had someone register, and then send out a bunch of PM's that included a link to a site that planted a Trojan. Since they never posted to the site, getting their IP was tough. So, it certainly makes sense to limit guest's ability to see profiles.
BTW, did the EM (and ER) server go through a rough patch last evening? I had to log off because both sites were extremely slow...

Maybe PM available with min. 5 posts?
It's great to be part of a very popular forum, but I can only imagine what a nightmare it is for the Mods EM is becoming a victim of its own popularity.

Yes: both sites were bottlenecked by a grumpy router (so I was told by the hosting/tech admin). They were both responding slowly or timing out.
Adam: we do have PM restrictions for new users.
Unfortunately, the visitor messages don't have any similar controls in the admin options. They're either on for everyone, or off for everyone. vBulletin addresses more and more spam related issues in each upgrade, so it's no doubt on their radar.

Yeah, it's getting rough out there. reCaptcha is pretty much useless now. My board gets a lot of bots signing up with names like "NewAdmin", "BoardAdmin", "ListOwner", etc., which are spamming the userbase with private messages. I just added a "test question" to the registration process to try to fool the automated registrationbots.

Is Ecorenovator broken for anyone else?
Anybody else having problem with Ecorenovator? When I try to read any posts, I get:
