Rose tinted Goggles thread

Don't know how well the title will translate around the world but feel free to post your fond memories of your old eco cars here - whether it was a stocker or a modded car.

Yes this is purely because me and Arragonis have been looking back at old Brit diesels which got me thinking about my old Perkins diesel engined Rovers that could run on used engine oil....

my other favourites include

the citreon AX14tzd (diesel) I had for a while, its the only citreon, I've liked. the fuel gauge broke, so I filled it...... then drove for a couple of weeks forgetting what mileage I started at it was only after I sold it that I worked out it must have been closed to 600miles and it was still running

fiat punto 55s.(Gas) the fiancee's daily hack loaded to the gills with family holiday stuff it still averaged 51mpg cruising at nearly 80 on the way to and from cornwall. the missus frequently forgot how long the fuel light had been on for yet it still ran, even we the needle wouldn't move when you switched the ignition on or off.

I'm sure I'll remember more -In more short 30 years on this planet I've driven/owned a few cars

1979 VW Rabbit Diesel 2DR

Old German guy who was meticulous brought it over from Germany, helped get it for a girlfriend of mine at the time. Clean and light green metallic. My late father called it "Possum".

Took a buddy down to Springfield, ran Possum at 80+ mph and never missed a beat. Down and back to Chicago with two big guys flying at breakneck speed, burned a little over 8 gallons of fuel.

Great little car. Never had another VW diesel that ran as good as that one.

Everythin' looks better through the bottom of a beer glass...

Hindsight is 20/20...

There are more that might be closer to relevancy.

OK, got one more. 1989 Dodge Cummins Dually. 727 T-Flite, 4.10 gears. If you drove it slow enough, did low 20s. It was a pretty, rust free Southern truck that ran like a clock.
