Santa Cruz, CA., Microcar show & sale update

E-mail this morning from organiser:

Well, the meet at Santa Cruz on July 12th is almost here. The meet is at the corner of Bay Street and Liberty Street. We will start the meet at 10:00 a.m. and we will eat around Noon to give everyone a chance to get there.

After we have met and peered at all the Arcane, French, Micro and Electric cars we will eat potluck. When everyone is full we will depart the site and proceed down Bay Street and turn right along the cliff top road known as West Cliff Drive. We will be cruising along some of the most popular streets in Santa Cruz so be prepared for a lot of interested sightseers waving.

We will drive all the way along West Cliff Drive to Natural Bridges State Park where we may attempt a brief stop overlooking the beach there. We then retrace our path until we pass the Dream Inn and proceed down the hill and turn right onto the wharf. We will saunter out to the end of the wharf and some daring passengers may bale out in order to get some fresh fish or souvenirs. As long as we stay less than 30 minutes there will be NO CHARGE on the wharf.

We drive back to the beginning and exit to the right onto Beach Street where we pass the volley ball games in the sand and then the Boardwalk with its 85 year old roller coaster and other rides. We will continue around until we turn right onto 2nd Street and drive over Historic Beach Hill until we turn right on Washington then bearing right on Front Street and left onto Pacific Avenue where we proceed most of the way through Santa Cruz's famous Pacific Garden Mall and see the great buildings that have replaced those destroyed in the Loma Prieta Earthquake in October '89.

During the lunch on Bay Street we will choose whether to proceed from downtown through the redwoods to Roaring Camp and Big Trees Railway where some may wish to ride the train back to the Boardwalk and return at their leisure, or to continue along East Cliff Drive and end our caravan in the quaint city of Capitola's beach area for a stroll round their gift and antique shops.

I own mostly micro cars. In fact, 7 of them are under 11 feet long. My newest addition is a '74 Zagato Zele 1000 that is 6'8" long.

I hope many people will take the opportunity to drive down to Santa Cruz for a mid-July summer's day in Surf City U.S.A.

Anyone with particular questions please email Stephen sg-c@pacbell. net
