Hmm, do they sell cheapo motorcycle batteries in this type? The last couple of cheap ones I've gotten have lasted under a year

I dunno, go to a Napa and see what they have.. the worst that will happen is you'll be out a $25 battery in a year.

I've never used Napa's L&G batteries, I've always gotten them from a local tractor shop, and I don't know the actual brand.. they're always labeled "White" (White tractor company.)

There's NOTHING cheapo about motorcycle parts.

I beg to differ they are cheaply built, not saying anything about sale price though.

This looks close to the one you're talking about :

NAPAONLINE®

Quote:
Item#: BAT8226
Attributes:
# of Volts:12
Features & Benefits:Perfect for light duty garden tractor utility snow blower and snowmobile applications
BCI Group #:U1LDC
Post Type:Top Mount
C.C.A. at 0 Degrees F.:215
C.A.at 32 Degrees F.:270
Load Test Amps:107.5
Reserve Capacity:45
Length:7 3/4"
Width:5 3/16"
Height:7 5/16"
Weight:20.0
But I can't find a price. For $25, this would make a nice hobby battery. I can't tell, but I don't think it's "deep cycle" like the marine batterys. How easy would it be to kill? Same as a car, easier or harder?

That looks about right like the one next door here. Like I said, I don't use Napa's batteries for that... anymore, I just fall in line and get them at Wally-World, like everyone else.

When I get my racing tractor built, I'll probably go buy one from NAPA, then I'll use it until it dies.

It's not a deep cycle battery, by any means, but I'm sure it can do it's job as far as lawn mowers and utility devices go.

Looking at the specs, that one's actually even more amps than the one next door.

The one next door is 195CA, about 40min reserve.

Well, the big failure turned out to be a non-event.

I looked-up where Teggy's batt came from. I located the repair order:

July 2001; 40K miles from NTB. That's nearly 8 years and 100K miles and it's still cranking!

So, I went to the new NTB up the road and started the process (Exide brand batts, it appears).

The tech put it on the tester and cranked it up. I continued reading the paper and looked into the "bay window" occasionally. He then turned to another tech and he looked to say, "This doesn't need a battery..." Sure enough, a few moments later, they brought the test strip into the waiting area with the good news...

Volts: ~11; Cranking Amps: 300-some (rated for something like 420 CCA). I asked about the red appearance in the indicator, maintenance, etc. They said if it happened again to replace it -- otherwise it's OK. Fair enough -- saved the cash for later -- I was impressed they didn't push a new batt.

That's it for now I hope -- likely until the first cold snap.
