Nowadays that would be an effective way to induce collective suicide. I guess you might have noticed an increase on pedestrians getting hit by vehicles while crossing the streets without even looking at it because they were entertained with those smartphones. Well, I guess the only thing smart about it are the phones anyway, because people are getting dumber than dogs (at least the dogs still look before crossing the street)...

So-called 'jaywalking' is a propagandistic term pushed by the automobile industry.

The "Jay Walker Family" according to explanations made today is numerous. It is composed of those pedestrians who cross congested streets without first looking to see if it is safe to do so. The local automobile club today adopted resolutions suggesting propaganda to be distributed all over the country to "kill off the Jay Walker Family." Automobile clubs all over the country ... will be asked to aid in exterminating "Mr. and Mrs. Jay Walker and all the little Walkers."
Tacoma WA auto club? The same anarchist organization that was making the plank-road beginnings of the Pacific Coast Highway? Those Tacoma auto clubs? Forcing sovereign WA citizens into "cross-walks"?

I for one am saddened by the first casualty of the robot uprising.

So, you want people walking in front of your car whenever they want, or you just want to be able to walk in front of everyone else whenever you want?

I would imagine that some would argue that since we have crosswalks, people simply walk across the street now without looking for cars.

They still do that outside of the crosswalk--and you are still supposed to look both ways before using the crosswalk.

Pedestrians cross the street when cars moving in the same direction have a green light. Where is the problem?

A human driver was behind the wheel too, so both human and AI had failed. Seems the woman inadvertently posed the greatest challenge possible to a vehicle.

This underscores my point that laws saying a vehicle always has the duty to yield to pedestrians is dangerous. It programs people to believe vehicles will always stop for them, when the assumption should be just the opposite.

Although I don't enjoy watching videos where people are killed, it would be interesting to see how the incident unfolded. I'm assume that footage will never be released.

We've killed way more robots than robots have killed humans. I killed a Roomba by working it to death.

Maritime rules. Throw weight counts. Like the buses in the Ethiopian intersection video.

I may cross in the middle, subject to my own responsibility, because cars can only come at you from one or two directions.

edit:
Xist — that was actually pretty good. He cut the story off before the 'peasants' started throwing themselves onto the hoods of cars for the insurance money; and people couldn't be bothered to look up from their pocket prison to save their own lives, so put Walk/Wait lights on the ground.

2nd edit:
As soon as had I watched that Youtube wanted me to see this:

I liked the editor: "It's unhealthy, but I cannot stop you."
