Shopping for a new Light Truck

My Work is going to bite the bullet and buy a small tray truck/pickup/cab chassis for me to use instead of my disreputable looking one
What would be a Mini Truck in the USA.

So far I have specified that it be 2WD (no snow here) 4 cylinder 5 speed manual Turbo Diesel.
My preference is for an alloy tray cab chassis -which is the most practical for the type of work I do.
Can anyone think of something I've missed? My aim is to get the most efficient vehicle.
Are there any recommendations?

This vehicle would be for use in Australia? Kind of hard to make recommendations from the US. We only get crappy bloated guzzlers over here.

If ONLY we could get a turbo diesel mini-truck....

Its not a turbo diesel

But I have a 4 cyl. Ford Ranger which averages just over 28 MPG with the only mod being driving philosophy.

Good luck!
