Silly lawyers and strangely worded laws

10-a. It shall be unlawful after July first, nineteen hundred sixty-seven to operate on any public highway in this state any motor vehicle registered in this state, manufactured or assembled on or after such date, and designated as a nineteen hundred sixty-eight or later model, unless such vehicle is equipped with an adjustable side view mirror which shall be affixed to the left outside of such vehicle and which shall be adjustable so that the operator of such vehicle may have a clear view of the road and condition of traffic on the left side and to the rear of such vehicle.

That is a section of State of NY law for motor vehicles, for one the wording is strange, for two what if I want to replace my side view "mirror" with something more advanced such as a camera? Boooooo NY I hate this State.

Go into the county offices and ask them about replacing it with a camera. What can it hurt?

Here's a site were you can look up silly laws for your state. One of my favorite ones in Texas is you can't shoot a buffalo from a second story hotel window.

SVO probably right they might have an admendment to it. Just need to ask and see.

Laz - that's what I was thinking. I read a vvvverrrrryyyy long and very interesting forum thread about citizen action with respect to parking, and I was inspired,

So why not ask, eh?

Women -- don't even think of wearing high-heeled shoes in downtown Kansas City. Breakin' the law!

Buried laws, that are indeed still laws -- but hold little-to-no merit.

True, Ben -- it takes Citizen action to unearth this stuff and bring the books up to 21st Century standards...

Consider yourself lucky. Here, on top of specifying and external mirror, they state a minimal surface area for the mirror, a minimal view angle, and the mirror must be adjustable from inside the vehicle...
