It would be really cool to tuft test this with smooth wheel covers!

My concern with FE is the way the tires seem to stick out from the bottom of the car. Doesn't that ruin aero? It would be awesome to see someone run a ABA on that. I'd rather stick the stock wheels on and then do the hubs and rear skirts.

it would destroy millions of dollars in wind tunnel development costs.

Just curious on your explanation. I take it you are talking about all the advertising of pushing your tires out for handling purposes. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Never heard of the explosive tire mounting technique...
So I went on the Interweb.

Lots of videos; from newbies barely having a clue as to
what to do, to obviously experienced hands.

It actually doesn't look that dangerous. There can be an
explosion inside the tire when the air/fuel mixture is
between the lower and upper explosive limits of the
chosen fuel. Either too lean or too rich a mixture and
nothing happens. I suspect that the expanding forces on
the tire are evenly distributed and on any small section
of the tire are less than hitting a pothole at a good speed.

Here's my favorite. The first attempt is unsuccessful...
mixture probably below LEL, no big deal, add a little
more fuel and the second attempt pops:

Hah, thats pretty slick. Thanks for the vid! I imagine this is safer than operating a potato cannon as well.

I remember doing that to tractor tires on quite a few occasions. Almost the same way. Old school truckers also know how to do this to re-seat a tire that has pulled off the rim. They can even do it under a load. Pretty cool.
