By coincidence I did have a road rage incident this afternoon - a beep from behind because I didn't run a traffic light.

The fact that I was actually behind someone else who stopped didn't seem to count for the 80 year old lady in the Volvo behind me.

She was raging, I mean a full on red-faced bouncing in her seat strop.

So I decided to have a chat with her.

She didn't want to.

She lives in the house opposite to mine.

I think she didn't want a chat because last Christmas I was up late watching a movie and happened to glance over the road into her house where she was beating her husband up with a cushion.

She was naked.

I have washed my eyes in bleach every day but the vision is still there.

Just a quick warning for those who like to brake-test tailgaters. A friend of mine has just done this and the TG-er failed the test. Result was, thankfully, only bent metal and no injuries. Aparently the other driver spotted the top of his (empty) child seat in the back afterwards and nearly fainted.

The police were called but were busy with other things so they didn't come. My friend and the other driver exchanged insurance details but when my friend went to sort out his claim he found out the other driver didn't have valid insurance, and the details he gave were false and the police don't have a current address for the vehicle registration number as the number has been cloned (copied, usually to allow the driver of the copy vehicle to go past speed cameras and so on).

They have recorded it as a crime but the car is already known to ANPR (auto number plate recog) but hasn't been spotted in over 18 months by any cameras.

In simple terms he is screwed and his insurance will bear the cost, he loses his excess and (maybe - although he is arguing it) his no claims bonus / discount as this is supposed to be 'protected'.

If you do get tailgated my preferred option is to slow down. This has 2 main benefits - firstly you get some escape space in front in case the person behind is not paying attention, and secondly it pi$$es them off even more. My dad (policeman) used to do this all the time as it was safer.

Just thought I would share.

Just have a big bumpersticker on the back that reads "The CLOSER you get, the SLOWER I go". Hopefully that would get across the idea that tailgating will only make things worse (from their speeder's point of view).

I'm reading some of these stories, and finding them completely avoidable. P&G to other people looks like you're attempting to piss them off. And, likely, you're not averaging even the speed limit if you never plan to pass the limit in your pulse.

To the other driver, they see it as someone who is already holding up traffic, and is speeding up and slowing down on purpose, seemingly to annoy that driver. Honestly if you're on two lane roads with a shoulder, let faster traffic pass. It's just good manners. In other situations, drive appropriately to the conditions and the flow of traffic. If you impede on traffic you only give a bad reputation to your cause.

What is evoked in him, then, is of another order, more terrible because it has no words, and triumphant, too, for the same reason. And his triumph, when he triumphs, is ours." -Sonny's Blues
