Sound Insulation

Has anybody used sound insulation on their roof? I had to drive through a downpour yesterday and the noise was almost deafening (had the Ipod hooked up and the head unit on 35 and could barely hear the music). I was thinking that adhesive backed rubber sheet, maybe 1/8"(3mm) thick might dampen the sound by a fair amount. Anybody have any suggestions?

It's not a big deal while parked, but I prefer not to drive with earplugs in. Sometimes it's nice to talk to the occasional passenger and that doesn't work well with earplugs

Yes that is what dynamat is for but check out Elemental Designs: Car Stereo, Home Speakers, Electronics . They have a few different solutions the cTherm blocks more of the upper frequencies and helps insulate.

Look for "Fatmat" on eBay, it's a dynamat knock off that performs just as good, and is much cheaper.

"All I know about music is that not many people ever really hear it. [...] But the man who creates the music is hearing something else, is dealing with the roar rising from the void and imposing order on it as it hits the air. What is evoked in him, then, is of another order, more terrible because it has no words, and triumphant, too, for the same reason. And his triumph, when he triumphs, is ours." -Sonny's Blues

LizardSkin Sound Control Insulation - SummitRacing.com

We are planning on using this on a couple of our cars to reduce heat and sound.
