Starting my project

Hi all, my name is Salvador Honório, I´m from Portugal and have been thinking for a long time in converting a car for my daily trips to work.

I have been gathering has mush information has I can before I start, unfortunatly in my country there are almost no information about this issue and I´m having lots of problems in finding the best solution for me.

I live in a small towm with lots of hills, just to get out of my garage I will have to climb a small hill that raise arround 3m in arround 10m long ( arround 30%)

The other hills are not so big, arround 10%, I would travel arround 5 milles going to work in one average 10% hill down hill, and 5 milles going up in a average 10% hill going up at the end of the day.

I do this 2 times a day, since I go home for lunch and since I have no experience with EV and never had the chance to test one I´m scared I might make the converssion and not being even able to go out of my garage.

Can anyone here tell me what engine would be needed for a car with arround 2500lbs to make this routs?

Since theres lot´s of hills and this is not a flat road the batts would be hable to run the car for arround 20 milles day knowing the last five miles would be always going up?

Since my budget is very short, I can´t aforth a new engine, and I´m trying to find a a old doner car, if possible a classic with no engine, or broken engine to be less expensive and a DC motor and a controler from a forcklift.

But has I said I´m scared to start buying the parts and then not been hable to use the car, could someone her with more experience answere to my doubts.

Best regards,

Salvador Honorio

Welcome to the site Honorio. That trip, despite being fairly short sounds like its going to take a fair amount of power to negotiate. What are the speed limits on the road?

For the travel to work the max speed alowed is 60km/h, 37.5mph, but going lower then 25mph will bring trafic problems
