Stimulus Check bah! Hand out scangauges instead.

What if the government would have bought everyone a scangauge instead of sending out $600 stimulous check? It would have only cost the gov 25% of what the stimulus check did. Most people who used it would save that much money anyway so they could put it back into the economy, right? And it probably would have cut into our oil demand drastically.

Ooh I wonder if we could write someone in congress or something and try to get a motion started to give a tax credit for a purchase of this type of device? Scangauge MPGuino whatever...

The silliness (IMO) of the "stimulus" check concept aside, supplying foreign-made products wouldn't constitute a short-term stimulus to the US economy, which was the point of those checks. Well, OK, the point of those checks was short-term political gain. FYI, a major beneficiary of the stimulus checks was the online pr0n industry. That gives a new slant to the term "stimulus," doesn't it?

So, how would sending me a couple of Scangauges do me any good, given that all four of my cars are pre-OBD?

The short term stimulus would come from the money im assuming the would save on gas. Surely there is some kind of American made device??? if you can afford to keep 4 cars maybe you dont need a stimulus check. You make a very good point though. Im just throwing ideas out there.

Shawn isn't driving 4 - 63 Vette's... He's driving old luxury cars, the insurance on them is next to nothing, they are fairly reliable and most get "reasonable" gas mileage (not 40's and 50's but high 20's and 30's usually). So, I wouldn't say somebody doesn't need the check because they have 4 cars.

I believe most of the $600 went towards one industry's record profits. Coincidence?

handing out scan gauges will work for some, others don't have cars , and others would not use the gauge to change there habits of driving..

now some sort of a credit on your taxes may be benificial.. or like there doing for those HDTV converter boxes .. hading out cupons for so much off a box...

But in my opinion, keep the government out of business and the market will find the place that works.. realize that when gas usage slumps too much the oil companies wont be making as much money and they will lower prices to spur there business. when you have a refinery that puts out 100,000 barrels a day and your only doing 70,000 barrels a day your loosing money every day.

Mine went to new tires, synthetic oil change, fuel system cleaning, and soon new brakes. All safety and milage enhancing. I'd say it did the right thing for me
