is there any way to manually control the TC's lockup (on electronic systems)? W/o causing the ECU to throw a CEL... Would it actually create a benefit to driving/mileage?

I've seen people modify their TCU's to lock the torque converter for more control. It does put more stress on the transmission though.

I knew a guy who dropped a 305 & 4 speed auto in a Jeep Wrangler, and he told me he had a switch for the TC lockup. You would have to be very careful, and really know what you are doing to avoid damaging anything.
