I'd be interested if they produced a 1+1 passenger design instead of a single passenger car.

If any of you guys are interested to see it IRL it's going to be an an exhibition at the house of sweden in Washington DC until November this year i think. I'm personally heading over there monday (27th) to start the preparations (im one of the student who built it, responsible for the transmission from ICE to Generator) and i think the exhibition opens up at thursday or friday. hmm, i just realised that i don't know half as much as i should about this trip :D

Can you tell us about the hybrid motor design?

botsapper 09-23-2010 02:08 PM

Does remind me of one of Carl Greatrix's car cartoons. Just take a fellow-country car manufacturer's Koenigsegg CCX, car-toon-it and...wallah!

Koenigsegg

Sure, 25cc Fuji Imvac 4stroke modellplane engine, ported head, Raised compression, converted to watercooling with a waterjacket around the cylinder, no throttle, runs on pure ethanol (E100).-----> Flywheel------> generator which is a 3-phase electric modellplane motor running backwards as a generator------>Rectifier-------> Super capacitor which acts as a buffer for the electrical motors which turns the wheels (one for each wheel). So it's a series hybrid with no mechanical link between the ICE and the wheels. This means that the engine runs at about 5k rpm when it's charging and then it shuts off until the cap is drained beneth a specified voltage.
It's originally a build for the Shell Eco Marathon so the rules for the competition has set the limits for which components we can use.

What is the model plane electric motor type, an outrunner?

A few years ago, I built this series hybrid motor for an electric bicycle. I think the permanent magnet motor that I chose was the weak point in the system.

If I could find the right type of electric motor I might revive this relic.

Can you give any specifications on the supercaps?

stefan 09-30-2010 11:39 AM

Not 100% sure but they are in the collective range of 60-80 farads, its predecessor(spelling?) the blue one has a 110farad cap. was that the numbers you were looking for?

Anyway, it's in place at the house of sweden/swedish embassy in washington DC and will be here until the fifth of december if anyone is interested and want to have a look at it :)
