Tach recommendations for 93 Metro?
I'm looking for a small tach for my 93 Geo Metro 3/5. The only one I've seen so far is the Glowshift. Any other recommendations?

...both the Scan Gauge II (SGII) and the AutoMeter Ecometer display RPM's.

Sunpro makes one too, but the Glowshift is far superior and worth the expense.

Scanguage II will not work on any pre-OBD II vehicles... I don't know about the Ecometer... But if it's OBD II, it won't work either. MPGuinos are great and can be set up to display RPMs, but require fuel injection (an 83 XFi is probably carburated).

Oops... The post heading says 83, but the post says 93... A 93 should handle an MPGuino. 83 is before the days of the Chevy Sprint...

Can't you just use the OEM one from another car?

If you find another cluster with a tach from a 1992+ with a 3cylinder, you are set.

I just bought a 95 Metro 3cyl, 5spd, and I'd like to get some instrumentation. Would the MPGuino work on this car? It has very little. Not even a trip odo or a passenger side mirror. At least I don't have to strip it down. Does the MPGuino negate the need for a vacuum gauge and a tach?

ebay has Metro instrument clusters for sale. There is one there right now for $59.50 for a 3cyl manual tranny 92-97. It would give you a factory look, trip odometer, RPM gauge...
metro instrument cluster, buy and sell Parts Accessories on eBay Motors

Thanks, but that doesn't move me toward my ultimate goal.
I guess I haven't carefully stated what it is that I'm trying to accomplish, which is this:
I'm trying to modify a vehicle to get the absolute best fuel mileage for the absolute fewest dollars invested. The vehicle has to be able to meet legal requirements and operate daily in a real world situation of operating at highway speeds, when necessary, and have enough power to get over 11-12,000 ft mountain passes and be able to travel up to 250 miles a day easily.
So far I have a little over $500 invested in a 95 Geo Metro 3cyl 5spd with winter tires. A different instrument cluster would be nice, but it wouldn't cost effectively move me toward my goal of higher FE. An MPGuino might, and that is what I'm hoping to find out. Will an MPGuino give me the info I need for tuning my driving style in this car, or is it ineffective without a tach or vacuum gauge?
