Assuming 3 more minutes 1 way, it's an extra:

30min / week
1 day / year (24hrs)

That all adds up, and life is incredibly short. Considering how much of your time is spent on other obligations (work, eating, sleeping, etc), 1 whole day of free-time is very precious.

As much as I love driving, I hate commuting. People should give more consideration as to how they can reduce their commute time. This includes living closer to work, driving at off-peak traffic hours, choosing efficient routes...

I'll probably end up riding a bicycle to work, which will double my commute time to 30min. The extra hour spent per day is a lot, but that time will be spent accomplishing 2 things; commuting and exercising.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.
It doesn't add up to having an extra day.

It's just 6 minutes a day - probably less when going 60 on the Interstate.
My commute times stayed the same despite going some 12mph slower.

Something to be said for that, but I don't like to rush it.
I'm always arriving 20-30' early.

By bike it's 2 hours of work-out, which happens to include the commute.
That's good - actually gaining back some time.

Of course it doesn't add up to a continuous day of free time, but if I had a wife and kids, I'd cherish an extra 6min with them every day.

There are many commute paths that do not benefit from going faster, but long continuous freeway driving can save some serious time by going a little faster.
