Tesla "sedan" will be a 4-door hatchback - a sign they're focusing on good aero

Via ABG : Business Week has just published a "teaser" shot of the car maker's Model S sedan prototype, which will either be a "pure" EV or extended range EV (EREV / serial hybrid), depending on who you read.

Of course, that's if the company weathers the current economic apocalypse. They've already closed their Michigan offices, laid off staff and announced S production will be delayed.

The most interesting tid-bit to come from the Business Week article is that the prototype is a 4-door hatchback. Good news, since it hints that Tesla's design is going for good aero.

Of course you don't have to use a hatchback body to get a low Cd (EV1), but it's a more practical approach (Insight, Prius, Volt, etc.).

Hopefully they'll raise the bar in their design and best the competition's figures.

There's a mostly useless "teaser" shot of the prototype's back bumper at ABG/Bus week. Go have a look.

PS - the Business Week article is also a good read about the state of the company.

Oh, I'll never own one either. But it's still fun to watch.

Here is another pic, it kind of reminds me of the Nissan 350z. I wonder who is going to be the first to install a grill block on one.

Don't put too much stock in that pic, it's a R&T interpretation, not an official Tesla release.
