Things to look for buying used S-10 EV

Hi folks,

Looks like Charles Clark is selling his S-10 EV (Charles Clark, Jr.'s 1994 Cheverolet S-10). I'm going to go take a look at it this Sunday if he hasn't sold it by then.

It's a "factory built" EV, rather than a conversion from a production ICE. Sounds like the batteries need replacing (it's got 52 12v 42Ah batteries ), so I'd be interested in some suggestions there too. Seems like I could go with 26 70 - 80Ah batteries instead (it's a 312v system ) while maintaining about the same range as the original set of 52.

Goal is to use this for my daily commute of ~25 miles... which has a ~2000ft climb in the dark (and potentially in the rain) on the way home.... though I do have the benefit of a charging station at work.

Thoughts? Good idea? Bad idea?

I would buy it if you can afford it, it would be a bit pricey but lithium batteries are much cheaper then even two years ago.

Main things to look for in an EV is corrosion in the battery boxes and on the electrical connections, heat damage on the motor and speed controller and to figure out what does not work, other then that look for things that have been hacked together.
