Throttle body spacer - torque/FE?

I read some previous EM threads about these kinds of things. Some good feedback, and some neutral (no gains).

Anyway, I am interested in finding a nice DIY project this summer. Something simple. Is this a doable project for someone with little mechanical experience? I do the basics (oil, tire rotation etc) but nothing like this.

More importantly, should I expect a gain in low end torque? And by extension - since more power at lower rpm means higher gears - in fuel economy?

it "can" add torque to the lower end, but how much is what is in question.
these types of modifications work in conjunction with other engine mods. just 1 isnt going to gain much.
I cant say what other mods those are as Im only passing on what Ive read on other forums about this.

personally, Id say it isnt worth it as there are much cheaper alternatives that will net you more FE with less hassle.

GM Europe sell (or did sell until recently) "Twin Port" versions of the smaller 1.2-1.6 engines. There is a narrower and longer inlet tract used at lower speeds and then a short and wider one which opens at higher speeds. It was first sold on a large car in the late 1980s when it gained a 4valve per cylinder head and the engineers wanted to keep low end torque healthy.

I have to admit to being cynical about this idea but I had a loaner 1.2 Corsa Twinport for a couple of days and it was a reasonably nice drive for a petrol (I drive a TDI so have mega low torque).

As for this device, is it one for the Unicorn Corral ?

Not worth it unless you are using it to fit a different TB on the engine adding a sensor or using it for a NOx injection site.

Still looking for a very simple and non-invasive eco-mod to do this summer. I'll be browsing the 65+ list, but am open to any ideas and suggestions.
