I my view oil has allready peaked, but that aside, you folks in the US can with peak oil look forward to pay the 7- 8 USD per gallon (us) that we pay for gas here in Europe....

You better start doing some more ecomodding .....

With a short commute and 60mpg, I'm already prepared for the end of cheap oil. That's despite my car being ten year old technology. There are here who drive 20 year old Metros or Civics and get as good of mileage as I do.

SUV's and personal use pickups will at some point become prohibitively expensive, and they'll be sold for cheap to people who actually use them as work trucks or scrap metal.

If we don't find cheap transportation alternatives, then people may need to move out of the suburbs and back in to cities. I'd be happy to see McMansions plowed under, and the outer suburbs returned to farmland.

This last year our family overall average is just over 50 MPG, including the wifes Rogue.
Less than 600 gallons for 30k miles.
