^ Keep in mind, a Dakota weighs more than your Liberty. A 4.7 with the same tranny in a 99 - 04 Grand Cherokee is rated to tow 6500lbs with 4wd, 6700 with 2wd. And yeah, the vehicle itself is probably somewhat limiting in the rating too.

Dave - I didn't realize there was that big a difference between an auto with a lockup TC and a stick in terms of efficiency at cruise. Maybe I should pursue that T56 swap I've been contemplating...

Tow ratings may not be an accurate guide in the above, for a variety of reasons. Meaning I wouldn't let them stop me or even alter direction. Keep on with the thought experiments.

Besides, one good-running MOPAR trumps four Fords parked in the front yard on any day.

You might also want to look into GV reliability. Not all that is claimed, unfortunately. Service intervals (fluid changes) are short. There is a thread out there in diesel land about an external fluid pump and filter being fitted to try to offset shortcomings. Seems I've read of GV's grenading almost as often as success is claimed over the past 30-years. Be diligent, is all.

Having had two GVs, I can tell you their problems are not mechanical, but electrical. Their gearing is pretty much bulletproof, but they use cheesy cables and connections. Annoying, but not a show-stopper.

If you grenaded a GV you have a HEAVILY modified engine and drive like a damned fool.

I think I'd pay big money to see a grenaded GV. Maybe even as much as a dollar!
