I have a VX with those special, highly sought-after, aluminum wheels so i don't really want to ditch them. This eBay search turned up some interesting results

From the eBay search -
Nexen, Yokohama, Toyo are brands I recognize. Not top flight but not junk. Sunny, Metric sound like real trouble. Hercules???? Not sure where its made or what it is.

Some of those were two tires only. You could have a matching front pair and a second matching rear pair. Wouldn't be the first time.

FWIW, the tread patterns on the Goodride and Ironman look good for those 5 tires on your link.....If you don't travel north in the winter.

Don't even think about trailer tires. I don't know you, but I expect your life is worth more than that.

That said, spring for the Defenders, You may spend $100, but at the end of the day you have a Tire Rack top rated tire that is built to go 90K miles........Duh.

Looks like Sams Club has got em for $85...dunno if that includes install, but even the $50 tire is going to be $65 delivered so you'll be out $80 for the set and you'll have to get them installed no matter what.

Defenders...nuf said.

I found sunny tires from ebay are a good replacement choice for 165/70/13. They balance great and are quieter & better wet traction then sumitomo. I pumped mine up to 42psi and mileage has not dropped from the sumitomos I had. Plus, mounted an balanced only cost $225 set of 4.

Go Kumho

Hopefully I can shed some light on this discussion. I also have a Civic VX with the stock 13" Wheels. I searched the site and the net for a couple of weeks to find the best tires for the VX and came up with the Kumho Solus KR21. It is only available in 155/80 R13, but they fit fine. I have about 1500 miles on them so far and I am very happy with them. I keep them inflated to 50psi and they handle great wet or dry and seem to be very quiet. The speedometer and odometer seem to also be reasonably accurate. As far as I can tell the speedo is only off by 2 mph. I have been getting great fuel economy with them even though they are not a LRR rated tire. I regularly get 65 to 70mpg on my trip to and from work(30 miles). I only have a few minor mods so far, grille block and MPGuino, mirror delete, antenna delete. Most of the fuel economy gains are from driving technique and maintaining lean burn. The Kumho Solus tires sure don't hurt. I would highly recommend them. Smaller tires = less rubber on the road to deflect and less rolling resistance. Don't be afraid of the smaller size. Hope this helps.
