Used Japanese Diesels: Still Available?

hi folks,

I remember about 20 years ago some outfits were importing used Japanese diesel engines into the states here. They were mostly running takeouts,mostly transportation engines, but a few industrial and agricultural ones. Does anyone know if they're still imported, and where I could get one? preferably on the West Coast.

What I'll be doing, is retrofitting a commercial fishing boat. It's set up now with a 454 Chevy engine. So the idea is: to find a six-cylinder diesel, and swap it out.

It's been done before, and worked very well. a guy down in Crescent city used to do it,but he retired years ago, and I can't seem to find him anymore.
