Velomobiles

This is awesome:

There is electric assist available.

Edit: After posting this, I found out that the Netherlands company that makes the Mango is run/owned by none other than Allert Jacobs:

Yes, awesome. Great video!

I love how aerodynamic & efficient velomobiles are. But my biggest hang-up is the idea of riding one of these in traffic. I just don't believe they are as visible as bikes or cars. My commute is 24 miles, a mix of bike path & city core & pot-holed 4-lane industrial roads.

I have a lot of risky hobbies - I own five different helmets. But the two things I've promised my girlfriend are that I won't take up base jumping, and I won't commute on a recumbent

I found a Canadian company called bluevelo that builds licensed versions of a couple of the Velomobiel (Allert Jacobs) designs; they are near Toronto:

velomobile models - bluevelo

I have inquired with them about test rides, and electric assist, etc.

Thanks for the thanks Neil! My 2004 Pod kit turned into E-Pod when I had a hub motor installed in 2007. It lasted from 2005 until 2011, but I dismantled the trike when I moved and now it is all locked up in my garage at the old place with the power off. 6 years of fun!

Hey -- they already read my mind and built a DuoQuest:

There are two videos of the DuoQuest in action -- wicked cool! Allert Jacobs is a genius, pure and simple.
