Hopefully, VW will pull their heads out of their collective arse and build a budget version diesel only, 6 speed manual. Would likely weigh about the same if made from non-exotic materials with no hybrid drive, maybe a few pounds more. It would still deliver north of 100 mpg, IMO. Should be able to do it for around 20K.

They would sell boatloads.

If VW rationalized the car as a contemporary KdF-Wagen,they could offer 'strippers',made of steel and glass.No exotic materials at all.GDI and manual trans.
Mass produced,with economies of scale,they could retail at $11,000 US.
With synchronized traffic lights,50-mpg CITY,100-mpg HWY.
I'm not sure about 'Strength',but they'd sure have the 'Joy' covered.

Not sure they could get it down to 11K, but even at double that, people would line up for it.

C'mon VW, smarten up and do it. No one other than rich folks looking to make a statement would buy the one made out of unobtanium.
