Yeah but 55 km/litre = 1.8181818 litres/100 km, that's a big jump from .9litres/100 km. And from not completely empty to half full.

Or it could be the Germans just like rubbing it their face...

Maybe the car has trouble starting in cold weather? I have wondered how a diesel hybrid would do in very cold weather, with intermittant starting. I know from the 10 years I drove Mercedes diesels, they hated the cold, and killed batteries.

I would like to see some real competition in the Hybrid market. This may be THE Prius killer.

This car's got a pretty heavy duty battery for running those glow plugs.

Aptera said that they didn't try a diesel in their hybrid configuration because they couldn't meet California emissions standards in a small-displacement diesel. I would guess that VW also couldn't get their Mercedes-licensed bluetec emissions on a small displacement diesel to comply. Probably for EU standards as well because the emission regulations for the USA, EU, and Japan are converging.

That's very nearly the perfect car. I'll take mine with a steel frame and a plastic body, though... I don't believe they can do CFRP economically for large production runs, and I'm not going to spend $30k on an economy car.

Hello -

I was actually surprised by this statement :

Quote:
It may look like a bizarre concept, but Volkswagen clearly indicates this vehicle as a prototype, highlighting the side-by-side seating, rather than the odd tandem setup in the L1 concept from the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. It even has a near-production interior.
When I remove the rear wheel skirt, I think I see some Audi R8 DNA :

The only thing "bizarre" about this car is that it doesn't have a "normal" rear window.
