w00t! 47.8mpg!

'89 Civic 1.5L FI

I know, it's only one tank. I'll need to confirm with a second tank to be really sure, but I'm really excited by this number! My goal was 45, and I beat that by almost 3!

I did this ONLY with hypermiling techniques.

The oil is getting pretty old and probably is (just) due for a change. (I'm usually pretty good about this)
There are massive rust holes below the doors.
The plugs probably need replacing or cleaning.
I think there's something going on with the O2 sensor. (occasional hunting idle)
At least one of the plug wires is marginal.
I've got an ailing control arm which probably isn't doing my alignment much good
All that, and there's a bunch of crap in the back!

I've been doing lots of P&G, some with the engine off. I've got no power steering or A/C, so that helps.
I'm avoiding 65mph zones like the plague, though I did take a couple in this tank. I like going through the country. It's 45&55 most of the way and I can P&G with no interruptions up and down the little hills.

I'm so proud that my tank lasted over 2 weeks instead of the usual 1 or 1.5 weeks.

Future mods:
Stick some plastic over the rust holes
Inspect or change plugs
Replace the wishy-washy plug wire
Clean the O2 sensor
Take the crap out of the back
Maybe a few little aeromods here and there.

...and refine my technique! I've been rather bad with stale green and red lights - I always seem to not slow down enough, so that by the time the light turns green again, I've almost stopped anyway.
