I have seen many discussions of marine plastic whenever someone used or considered something else, so I ordered a 14'x10' sheet from Boat Shrink Wrap Construction Wrap 14. That was more than I wanted, but ten feet was the minimum length--$2.18 per foot, with free shipping. I bought a heat gun and tonight I tried it out.

I wondered how it would ever work, I needed to be able to attach the lugnuts!

It shrunk pretty well, except at the edges, and where I had slit it to fold around the back. The last picture shows a hole on the edge--that came all of the way from the back!

When I try again I will cut a slightly larger piece, cut out holes for lugnuts, and put a five-pound weight or something to hold it down as I shrink the rest to fit.

We will see how it goes, but it takes a while!

I haven't used this particular product, but I use (much thinner) heat shrink at work.

The weight in the center sounds like a good idea, but I wouldn't try cutting holes for your lug nuts until after it's been shrunk in place. Any holes or cuts will spread during the shrinking process.

Well, I failed again. I ordered these hubcaps Amazon.com: CCI IWC413-15S 15 Inch Clip On Silver Finish Hubcaps - Pack of 4: Automotive that I mentioned in http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post314630 and I was all ready to ecomod, but my stock rims are completely different than others that I have seen. I think they are more attractive and hope that they are lighter, but they absolutely do not fit these hubcaps!http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...9&d=1369439833

How does it stay put around the edges? Seems to me it would want to pull itself back over.

Well, the first one was a disaster. The I slit the plastic and it atrophied and disappeared wherever I cut it. I did not try the marine plastic with the new ones because I could not mount them on my rims.

I do not know if I will have the opportunity to try again, I may only be able to use hubcaps like mine on my Subaru, and the lugnuts complicate everything.

I guess that I will just fiberglass over everything! :D
