Wiring in the video mirrors is the hardest part. I have had to rework the wiring several times. The worst problem I had was a power wire that was rubbing on the steering column eventually shorted and I could not start my car.

Locating the monitor(s) is also important. They need to not reflect onto the windshield - at night even the "black" image reflects as a rectangle on the inside of the glass which prevents you from seeing things at night. Mounting the monitors close enough to the driver, is how I fixed this. It will depend on your car and where you can put the monitor(s).

You could tap into one of the other lights near the backup light, such as a parking light. Then the camera would be powered any time you turn the lights on to the first click.

Running the lights would probably negate the fuel savings from eliminating the mirrors, but if you don't need the camera on all the time, then you wouldn't waste too much. You could also replace the corner lights with LEDs, which would consume very little power.

Would there be a way to tap into the power to the Navi/DVD player itself?

That way I would have the rear-view camera functioning the entire time the stereo was on, and if I wasn't actively playing with the stereo the video feed would always be functioning.

I'm really not good at electrical, though. Think a stereo guy (of which there are many here in Lakeland) would know how to get it power all the time (cheaply)?
