The Smyth Performance 3GF body would be something cool to wrap around
an existing Jetta TDI powerplant:

I can't tell if the prototype ever made it into production.

Okay, maybe we're making it sound a little easier than it actually is, but Smith is confident there is enough interest to make a go of it with a line of depositors already being formed. Despite deliveries (optimistically) planned for September, the original prototype is still under construction. The operation doesn't have an official website either – that's coming this fall – but you can follow the progress of both car and company on both Facebook and the unofficial Factory Five forum. Hit the jump for video of Mr. Smith explaining his concept and tell us what you think.
I went to the Facebook page once, looks promising. They were changing the rear end, adding something which looked like a bumper. Not a 100% successful improvement in my opinion, but it still looks good.

Somehow I thought something like 100 people put some money down. I hope it all works out for them, it is a very nice design package.

Smyth Performance

There are 50 "Beta"Smyth G3F's orders sold so far. I just put my deposit down on one this week. It should be delivered in May.

The actual car does not look like the red car previously posted in this thread. There is only 1 completely finished car so far. It is the white "Alpha" car on Facebook. That's Mark Smith's (company owner) first prototype.

Goto Smythperformance on Facebook for actual photos.

Should only weigh 2200 lbs with the fiberglass body. There is also a hardtop included, but it is absent from most of the photos.

There is at least 1 kit sold so far to a TDI "hyper miller" in Raleigh. So actually mpg should be over 60+ mpg. (hopefully)

I'm actually considering making a boat tail on my TDI jetta before cutting it apart for the fiberglass kit car body.

An old LeBaron convertible would be easy. I saw one with a great boattail once.
