Alright, Ill talk.

I have several ideas for the insight:

I want to cut a foot or so from the rear passenger are from rear of front seats to front of fuel tank to shorten car, make it 2 seater.

Build a wall to section off the trunk and passenger rear area and fill it with a big subwoofer box and speakers.

Use the guts from my sidekick to make it 4wd.

For my sidekick?

Gut the drivetrain and make it a v8 powered power choke beast with tranny and shortened rear axle.

I actually just saw a sidekick that was very similar to what you were describing exept it was a drag racing car with a 4x2 spoiler about 3 foot above the roofline and a parachute and wheelie bar on the back. I'm not gonna lie it was about the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

1. 79-82 Mustang hatchback with the 200 inline 6 with twin turbos, 99-04 Mustang Cobra independant rear suspension swapped in, mount a 5 or 6 speed transmission just in front of the differential and run a torque tube between the engine and transmission. Some floor pan mods probably would be needed to clear the top of the transmission. Mount the battery in the rear. This would net a nearly 50/50 weight balance. Add 80-81 Mustang Cobra hood scoop, grill, front spoiler and rear spoiler. Upgrade front suspension and brakes with 5 bolt hubs.
2. 33-34 Ford body street rod with a stretched front body and 4 smaller wheels/tires in the front, normal 2 wheels/tires in the rear. This would be slightly reminiscent of the Tyrrell P34 Formula 1 race car in the 1970s. Drive train, Ford 300 inline 6 engine and a 5 speed manual transmission. Name it the 665 for 6 wheels, 6 cylinder, 5 speed.
3. 83-85 Mustang convertible with a 80-81 Mustang Cobra grill, spoiler, hood and hood scoop. Paint the car body and wheels white then paint the hood with a flowing in the wind US flag.

That plan sounds interesting. I'd like to see how you would deal with the 4-wheel steering rack.

If you built the speaker box as a boattail, it could taper down to a single 12" sub. The taper of the tail would make it like riding inside an exponential horn.

Flyinghippo -- Re: #2

I used to think about a red '34 Ford chopped 3-window fiberglass body dropped over a mid-engined sand rail frame with long travel A-arm suspension. It would have chrome Lakes pipes, but the part that looks like it goes to the muffler when the caps are on would actually be the exhaust from the mid-engine and it would act as a massive nerf bar. Gull wing doors.

Air-bagged so it could go from a street rodder stance to jacked up with a push button. It could turn off a road, jump the ditch and go right up the side of a hill.

The rumble seat would flip up into a bullet-proof shield, like 007's Aston Martin.

I have always wanted to build . . .

. . . "Max", the Jack McCornack creation that was one of the early entrants to the Xprize. I met Jack at various events leading up to and beyond the Xprize and have always enjoyed the practical simplicity of his construct. The vehicle now has a much more aerodynamic body then when I got a sit-down in it, but I trust that it is still as light and responsive as ever with it's little Kubota diesel engine. Driven reasonably, 100 mpg is a regular occurrence.

Reverse in my truck is too fast, especially if I have a load or want to backup to a trailer. So two crazy ideas I have had is to either mount a 2nd Ranger 5 speed manual inline behind the factory one and shorten the driveshaft. Or attach a 4 wheel drive transfer case to the rear of the 5 speed that is in it. I think the transfer case idea would be much more realistic to attempt. There would be a little added weight and maybe a little more friction plus I would have to come up with a linkage to control the transfer case.
