I learned the hard way not to brag about vehicles and whatnot.

When I first got my 4x4 I bragged to my G.F. that it would never get stuck. She proceeded to bury it up to the axles on several occasions before I took it back.

I designed and built some wooden sawhorses and man, was I ever proud of my design! I gave a set to my Pa and told him they were INDESTRUCTIBLE, and he proceeds to set a BUILDING on them, and they failed. So I made a set special for him out of 2 x 10s but said they MIGHT break if he sets another building on them.

Build it more idiot proof, then find a better idiot.

I tell my dad that everything is "(adjective) within reason". It keeps him from testing the theory.

One time, I built a mechanic's workbench in an area still used as a loading bay by novice drivers. So I built it strong. As usual, plans changed, and the bench was sold a year later. The new owner came to pick it up, and after two or three hours, left with just the top. :-)
