Wheel Well Fender Flaps in Front of Rear Tire (04 Civic)

I was inspired by the recent post regarding edges being useful in new aero designs. One of the comments by the GM guy regarded a flap in front of the back tire on the Chevy Traverse. I found a good pic of it here.

and Zoomed in....

This got me to wondering about my 04 Civic back tire...

I was thinking of doing this....

I would just use some vinyl edging or something to extend it out a few inches and drop it down a bit making it the width of the tire and 2 -3 inches lower than the frame rail.

I would use some sorta plastic fasteners to attach it, cause if I use metal screws, and the thing gets torn off somehow, there is about a 110% chance it will end up giving me a flat tire.

Crazy enough to work?

You'll see these small air deflectors on loads of new cars BTW.
Any air you can deflect away from a tyre is a (minor) gain.

Put them at a slight angle.

Get some cheap mudflaps and stick 'em on the "wrong" side...

funny how we say to take 'em off if they are mounted where they're supposed to be.

1986 Subaru XT

Just as a comparison, you might want to look at what Fuji did with the '86 Subaru XT.

Porsche Cayman has also nice curvy flaps before rear tires. This is the best picture I could find, but that "lies" little about the angles used.
