Norway's Think Wants to Build U.S. EV Plant - 03/16/2009

Norwegian electric car maker, Think, wants to open a new manufacturing plant in the U.S. to begin production in 2010.

The company is currently in discussions with eight states, including Michigan, that are interested in hosting the facility.

The plant would initially employ about 300 workers to build 16,000 TH!NK city vehicles per year and another 70 engineers in an accompanying technical center. Plans ultimately call for up to 900 employees and a capacity of 60,000 electric vehicles per year, Think said in a release.

They have a "Stirling" reputation :

When I reach the top of a winding driveway leading to Westwind, Kamen's estate outside Manchester, N.H., I'm greeted by an employee rolling along on a Segway. Then Kamen, dressed in jeans and short sleeves, a smartphone holstered on his hip, comes whipping around a corner on a small black motorcycle that sounds like the starship Enterprise going to warp factor 8. It's an electric scooter equipped with a Stirling heat engine that is charging the vehicle's battery, providing virtually greenhouse-gas-free travel.

Scared me- I was expecting a CaliforniaHighwayPatrol type of chippy! Part of Highway 1 goes through town and I have had no problem so far, but if I had to check my mirrors more for Thinks, that is *all* I need!

That Pininfarina designed Pea Pod made a big celebration on reviews last year, but it appears to be headed nowhere. I don't know if Chrysler is building them.

Interesting what disappears and what doesn't- Comet disappears but BVD is doing well.
