Worse MPG ever. Lowest Fuel Use Ever!

I'm now living less than 2 miles from work. The problem is it's in the city limits and I'm still driving to work. My average work commute would be about 26 mpg before, but I was 5 miles each way. Now I'm at about 19 but only 2 miles.

I am considering trying to bicycle to work as it's close enough, but with my city being built on a mountain It's a 350 foot elevation change in less than 1/4 a mile. With a 1/4 mile 200 ft elevation change at the end. That factor probably isn't helping the MPG either.

Even with my average MPG looking terrible, I'm still pretty happy about it honestly. With commute only I'm going to average 1 tank of gas every 2 months. Not bad!

Have you considered walking? 30 minutes each way, you won't be as tired/sweaty when you get to work. From what I've heard it might even be healthy...

Or.... cheap e-bike to the rescue. It'll probably pay for itself in the gas savings.

Another vote for an e-bike! That is, if you don't view conquering the hill as a challenge.

with that much of an elevation change, EOC-ing on the way down...around the block, around the block again...should bring your averages back up.

Can't EOC. Also, several stop lights/turns. I actually had an E-bike at one point. The strongest one they had couldn't manage and it was pedaling dead weight on anything but straight stretches.

Will need A-B-A on that walking though. (:

It's worth considering.

EOC your legs on the walk down...into a soft matress at the bottom of the hill to break your fall.

I have B-A test about it, and hope I can't ever repeat the B again ...

Walking has been a great contributor to me losing some 88 lbs / 40 kg - most of that since October.

A brisk 40 minute walk each way is just the cardiovascular exercise your heart needs to keep you from becoming a statistic. If it's just too hot and humid to walk, a 50cc scooter will replace an e-bike handily.
