Yeah, I tired the Honda route. I really wanted to buy a Honda Insite Hybrid. He blew another gasket and told me the money still went to Japan. In this state we have a plant for Toyota, and he feels the same way about American built Toyotas. The funny thing is, HE bought a $40,000 Chevy 4x4, which he learned AFTER HE BOUGHT IT, was assembled in MEXICO!

-He not like that, and he made it clear he did not like it and would not of bought it if he knew before he signed the contracts.

He also does not care if a Honda has MORE domestic content than a Chevy! lol - Remember the GM GEO METROS? We all know GM just slapped their name on those cars for a few years, and they had like no American content. Shucks my Cobalt is only 71% American AND Canadian content. But when your dealing with a UAW retiree that has made a darn good living, and now is resting in a very nice home that is paid off early, just like his cars, well it's difficult to even consider talking about the other side. He got in and out of the American auto industry at the most perfect times. It's no longer possible to do what he did, the deal is no longer on the table. I supposed I would of done the same thing if I was of the same generation.

YKYAEM if while cruising on the highway in semi-wet conditions you think for 15 minutes straight about if the net rolling resistance is lower in the dry but rough pavement "ruts" or the wet but smooth "ridges". (I settled on dry but rough btw...)

YKYAEM if... You don't EVEN want to know what THREE alternators would do to your MPG, this was done for a sound system I believe...

They should have just installed a 240v generator like those used in backup generator units. Add a bidirectional inverter and battery pack and there's your hybrid.

YKYAEM when you start thinking of a way to make an aerocap for a mini-van, so you don't have to get rid of it to buy a truck... (That's just not economically responsible, now is it?)

When you choose to keep quiet so you don't make other people feel quite so "dirty" (in a strictly ecological sense).

When you start noticing the wasteful behavior of even the people on Planet Green. (Not that I'm any less wasteful, at times... can't be perfect angels all the time, can we?)

When you yell at yourself for even thinking that there might have been a good reason for thinking that it would be OK to go 5MPH faster to get somewhere 5 minutes faster, when you could have just as easily left 5 minutes before you did, if you weren't currently posting on EM about how you know you're an ecomodder... aw, damn. Blew 'yer Mind, eh?

You know you're an ecomodder/hypermiler if you almost get rear-ended on the highway by a drunk driver because you're doing 55 in a 65 wicked late at night. I was coming home from dancin' at a ska show in New Haven tonight (went to see the Toasters), and this car came up real fast behind me in the right lane (out of four lanes on I-91 North). I saw it at the last second and stomped on the gas pedal as hard as I could, and thank God the other car didn't hit me... I think they hit the brakes too, cause they dropped back pretty far and eventually went around me. But sweet Jesus, there was a huge pucker factor when I saw those headlights...

Drunks are terrible on FE aren't they.

You know your a Hypermiler when you coast down a mountain side too far and too fast in EOC and your brakes go out due too too much use, you run a stop sign and nearly end up crashed off the road before you can re-start the engine.

"Lost your brakes" as in, they overheated? Or you used them too many times and lost vacuum?

If they overheated, sure, that's a problem... if you lost vacuum, that's not a problem, you just use more pressure on the pedal... I do it all the time.

This post begs the question, of course, why were you in EOC down a mountain instead of DFCO where it would have caused less pollution (brake dust) and still not cost you any fuel?
