Your ideal home/property
If you could pick a piece of property, have the type of land that you wanted and type of house that you wanted. What would you buy or build?
Me:
-2 acres, semi wooded, no more than 5 miles from stores.
-Build a 1800 sq foot straw bale or cob house with basement
-Pitch the roof to take advantage of solar heating on the south facing wall
-Roof would be grass, maybe even build the house into the side of a hill or makr a portion earth covered (yah Lord of the Rings style)
-2 car garage built of cob or strawbale with 220 available
-Combo solar powered\wind generated power so I could go off grid
-1/2 acre garden for veggies
-Fish pond with solar fountain
Most of the yard and landscaping would be natural. I'd just have a small portion dedicated to a lawn.
I'm just curious what you would build

Only if there's sufficient air. Electrical goes inside of a conduit as opposed to relying upon the wires insulation. Though electrical will provide the necessary heat and straw the fuel. The air between tightly packed strawbales is scarce and doesn't burn as well as an "air" mixture would.
So though it will burn, it will take a while to get through it.
If you have an electrical fire, kill the power.
I'm sure you know that, but my Dad is a retired firefighter and I was a volunteer for a while, so I guess I've got that Smokey the Bear thing goin on. Guess all the brainwashing worked huh
:-)

I want to be far enough from retards and their motorized mayhem that I can't hear it, daytime, nighttime, whenever.
I fear such a place does not exist.

Owning property chains you to society. Ideally, we could all lose the concept of land as property and not actually have too many people for it to not be possible to work. Like some of the Native American tribes. But that sort of ideal truly cannot exist with our capitalism.

On a quiet lake within cycling range to general store... concrete outer structure, then XPS, then woodframe inside that, cubic design with attached boathouse with paddleboats (an old style one with cool pontoons) and canoes and a deck above to BBQ and dive off.
Insulated so well that I only need 2 big dogs and a medium one for heat... and when not needed they stay outside! LOL

My dream home?
Something like this:
nice house for k in yorkton.jpg
That house was for sale last summer for a mere $89,900 in a city of 19,000 people, just 2 hours north-east from where I live. Unfortunately (for me) housing in Saskatchewan is worth way more now.
I also designed my own 'perfect' home too:

Basically a normal 1960s or newer 3 bedroom bungalow. Nicely wooded yard, biking distance to work and all amenities would make me happy.

I'm guessing that the song Imagine is on your top 5 favorite songs of all time.
Is mine to.

I know what you mean. Friggin air and noise pollution. I'm buying a push mower this spring so I don't have to smell like gas, grass and ass. Well, can't help the ass part I suppose, but that's what showers are for (with low flow shower heads of course)
