Did you meet your 2013 Goals??? What's in store for 2014?

I would like to see what members meet their number one goal for 2013.

My number one goal for 2013 was to reach 45+ mpg freeway in my Talon. I was successful and learned a lot along the way.

My 2014 Goal is to get to 50 mpg freeway in the Talon and paint the car with some major details to the engine compartment.

So who did what in 2013 and whats in store for 2014???

I met my goal of marrying a beautiful woman that compliments, challenges, and grows with me... sadly I am not on track to make my pointless goal of weighing 200lbs.

But I see your post is about fuel economy, so I'm proud to say that my wife has learned most of the efficient driving habits that I practice and has very nearly matched my MPG. Currently I average about 30mpg in the TSX, but my next goal is to get 55mpg in a Prius, which I'm in the market for.

It seems the prices in the Portland market are inflated and people treat the Prius like gold, so I might pay SF or Sac a visit next week if I can find a hot lead on Craigslist. And as much as I absolutely love the TSX, the thought of selling it and getting a Leaf has crossed my mind more than once. If they weren't so darned expensive, and/or I could convince work to provide a charging spot, I'd tip that direction. As I've always advocated, a 2 vehicle family only needs one ICE for the long trips, and a BEV for the daily commutes and grocery getting.

You're doing better than most! I'll bet I didn't put more than 5,000kms on the CBR, and I've been commuting to work nearly every day since selling the Jeep and Pontiac.

Had a goal of hitting 70mpg on a tank with Helga, but didn't quite make it (did 70mpg+ on a half tank, but I'm not counting that as meeting my goal). I'll leave that as a goal for 2014, though I think it will require a bit more aero work.

redpoint5 - heading down to NorCal for work? I haven't really been looking at Prii, but I suspect the Bay area folks might treat them similar to Portlanders. Have you driven the Prius before? If not and you tend to like "shifting your own" as with the TSX, I'd recommend trying one before buying.

The only way I intend to even approach 70mpg is with eMPG. Good work!

I'm not heading to NorCal for any other reason than to buy a Prius and perhaps visit the aunt/uncle. I've had my eye on a 2010 III Prius for a while, but Portlanders won't let them go for less than $16,000. I've seen a few in CA for $13,500, and I'm willing to travel to save even $1k. In the meantime, I've been driving the Cummins when it's freezing, and the motorcycle when it's not. The truck doesn't even warm up in the time it takes to get to work, and the bike is never warm.

Thanks for the warning; I have driven a few Prii, and true, the lack of shifting and power is the end of certain kinds of fun, but the techno-geek in me finds pleasure in efficiency. Besides, I can shift my own gears and go faster than anyone should go on the motorcycle. I intend to buy a fuel efficient car and take road trips with the wife. Our requirement was something that gets good fuel economy, has a low total cost per mile, and can sleep in the back.

We're not rich, but we don't want that to prevent us from seeing the world.

Ummm... lessee... I set personal bests for "hard" and "evil" Sudoku. Everything else seemed to go right down the tubes.

Sorry, my goals are more long term. Short term seems an exercise in frustration which is a waste of time. I won't be breaking any of my personal mileage records, but our cost per mile is minimal which is a continuing process. I need to get her in a more efficient vehicle, but I have cut my yearly mileage significantly by just staying home.
Of course 2013 was the beginning of a big project for me, hopefully 2014 will get it close to it's final configuration, or at least closer than it is at this time.
I wasted 30k miles of driving and pushing for some financial help, as time passes I have stopped trying very hard at all. I feel that a working example will go far to move the process forward.

regards and Merry Christmas
Old Mechanic
