So... back to the fuel cost discussion...
When I was in HS (95-99) they told us that if oil consumption continued on at its present rate of increase, that without new drilling, all the world's oil reserves would run out in 7 years and we needed to do something about it. Here we are now, 10-14 years later, and our oil consumption rate has gone up from where it was (we've obviously drilled since then). And this debate started back in the oil crisis of the 70's... So, nearly 40 years from then we have not progressed. Oil is still king.
There are a lot of valid points in discussion on what to do. But the endless debate keeps fuel companies from adding alternative pumps, keeps people unsure of what is to come, and keeps car companies (mostly owned by oil companies) from committing to one target. I would love us to get off of oil completely, we need to decide what we're going to do and go with it. It seems any alternative fuel is not adopted because the infrastructure is not there to make it available. And we're not moving very fast, so it will keep coming back to bite us. If the solution takes 10 years to implement, delaying it doesn't make it shorter. There is no immediate solution that they seem to want.
