Suggestions welcome

The short of it is: I don't know how much throttle is the best for my application when accelerating. I have read a few threads on pumping losses and the engine seems to be more efficient with the throttle blade open more correct? I have been accelerating like a grandma and have been getting OK numbers. My (revised) commute is 75 city 25 "highway" (open road @ 55) its a 16 mile commute and it takes me roughly 35 minutes, to give you an idea. This is in my 92 civic with a 5 speed. The stoplight on most of the commute are far enough apart to where I can get up to the posted 45mph for a minute, so my question is: should I accelerate at normal or a little above normal to achieve better results?.. or stick with the approach. I realize every car is different but I have no way of gauging this w/o a supermid or a similar device, so I'm just trying to gain some perspective on this.
