new guy from Oklahoma!

Hello everyone, I am here to see If I can get some help. I am looking for a four wheel drive that I can squeeze the most mpg out of. I realize, there are not a whole lot of options here but, I have found that Geo Trackers and Suzuki Sidekicks get 25mpg or so. I am a part time mechanic so I have to have room for a decent size tool box that I can keep in the back of what ever I buy. Currently, I drive a 2003 2wd 3.0 Ford ranger that gets terrible mpg for a small truck, maily due to the 4.10 gears (thats factory btw). I should have $4k-$6k to spend once I sell my truck. Any suggestion of 4x4 small trucks or suv's that get good mileage would be great!
