It should, but it depends on the year of the recipient vehicle. There were a few different final drive ratios.

So it sounds like you would be swapping the stock 4.39 for 3.79. You might want to see if anyone has done that, it sounds like it could be a little doggish.. I've heard of people putting the 3 cyl trannys on their 4 cyl engines though for a really fun ride.
