The website states the IC engine has not yet been selected. This will have a large bearing on cost and highway FE. Biodiesel has the best shot at being efficient and sustainable. If I wanted to get 290 mpg at 70 mph then I would ditch the electric drive in favor of a wide range gear box. The passenger seat could be moved back and in tighter to reduce overall width. Rear steering is not known to be stable at those speeds. I take it that this design is aimed more toward urban use.
