ALL Saturns burn oil because the share the same short block and more importantly pistons. There are no holes in the piston where the oil control rings go. Therefore, oil gets caught in the control rings and gets stuck which then cooks it like crazy and causes the control rings to gum up and stop working. In a rebuild the pistons are either replaced with ones that have the drain holes, or the holes are drilled into the factory units. FWIW my friend used to be big in Scions and he said the Toyota engine that comes in the oldish TC and Camry (2az??) suffers from the same problem.
