Shave the roof rack, dabbled in acetone 2oz per 10 gallons, good tune-up, electric fan, good 6ply tires without all terrain tread, mobil1 EP synthetic, clean the throttle body (they stick) and pick up a scangauge.
Perform a full cooling system flush and make sure you get all the dexcool out. What happens is the crappy coolant turns to gel and slows down the cooling of the engine. What the PCM does in response to increased engine temps (gauge never sees) is dump in more fuel to cool the engine. Go with a quality thermostat with the factory temp rating.
