My brother and I test drove a 2007 Camry 4 cylinder, manual. I didn't know they were still making stick Camrys that generation. I have no doubt it could get your 34 mpg. It had 66k on it and was $9000. He ended up getting a 2013 Focus with a stick and 98k for $6700. I think that car could get the 45 mpg driven right, grill shutters, 2.0 direct injection, variable valve timing, etc. Anyway, I think you could rebuild the camry but anything different then stock is going to cost more then you ever get back. Get big gains by selling it and getting something more modern.
